Cravings Be Gone!

“Hot mess mom”. Did you know that title is like the common cold? You can catch it at any time and from anyone. With careful planning, you can escape it. But, me? Not so much.

While Amanda is basking in the beautiful sun enjoying the wine country (much deserved), I had fully assumed the “hot mess mom” title this past week. I invite you to re-live this week with me just so I can have the opportunity for a vent sesh.

To begin the week, the pipes under the kitchen sink started leaking so our sink cabinet full of junk is now piled on top of the counters while my DIY hubby fixes it. It’s taking him a little longer to fix the problem than expected! For an OCD mom, I’m going Crazy right now (that’s right, with a capital C)! Not to mention this cut off the water supply going to our fridge…so no ice and no cold drinking water!

On the bright side, I finally got the stitches out of my thumb from a minor surgery I had two weeks ago. On the downside, I never had stitches before and nobody told me that removing the stitches hurt like hell! I thought I was going to throw up on my doctor when he started tugging away at the little black string. I felt each little thread pulling through. It was lovely. Unfortunately, my right thumb doesn’t bend anymore so holding a pen and writing is a joy. My once beautiful handwriting is now “scribble scrabble” as my son would say. Also, the scar looks like I got attacked by a rabid animal. My husband told the kids that mommy now has a “Frankenstein” hand. So guess what my kids and the kids in their class are now calling me? It’s awesome.

Adding to my fantastic week was the fact that my son had a damn meltdown in the middle of PetSmart because I wouldn’t buy him a toy. Yes, that’s right…a toy from the doggy store! This tantrum madness continued for an hour after we got home. He hid in his room just crying his little eyes out. When I finally started to feel bad about him being so upset, I decide to check on him only to find him in front of his mirror perfecting his cry-face! What is that all about?! What a drama king!

In addition, my poor dog somehow scratched his cheek a while back and it has now developed into this huge cyst that’s been (don’t read if your squeamish) oozing this stinky bloody mess. The vet didn’t have an open appointment for days so in the interim I’m having to follow my dog around the house spraying and wiping anything he happens to lay his cheek on.

That brings me to the last part of my vent sesh. I have been a huge ball of stress working like crazy to meet project deliverables for a weeklong conference next week in Vegas that is hosted specifically for our executive leadership. Because of this, I have been neglecting lunch and sometimes I didn’t even get a chance to go potty.

Thankfully, I had a few meal replacement shake samples that I’ve been waiting to try! This week was the perfect week since I didn’t have time to make lunch. So liquid diet it was!

I wanted to share my personal thoughts on the meal replacement shakes I tried this week. First and foremost, I have a sensitive tummy so I was worried how I would feel after the shakes, but I’m happy to report that I didn’t ruin a single pair of my underwear! (Yay! Winning!) Also, please understand that I only tried 1 pack of each so the results may have been different if I had continued it for an extended period of time. I’m hoping my feedback may encourage you to try one yourself or save you a few dollars from trying one that totally isn’t worth it.

GNC Women’s Ultra Mega Active
Cost: $2.99 Per Pack
Flavors: Chocolate and Vanilla
Taste: Yummy
Calories: 130g / Total Carbs: 18g / Total Protein: 10g / Fiber: 10

What I liked about this product: I liked that this product has green tea and B-           vitamins to help boost my metabolism and energy, which was much needed for this week. I only used water to mix the shake because I wanted to taste the raw deal. I tried the Vanilla flavor and it was actually pretty tasty. This shake curbed my hunger throughout the afternoon, but once I hit the “hungry” level I was looking for anything and everything to eat.

What I didn’t like about this product: It has artificial flavors, which I’m not a huge fan of. I also didn’t like the feeling of immediate starvation when the shake “wore-off”.

I wasn’t starving by late afternoon like I normally am. I really like that this product has all natural flavors and sweeteners, it’s gluten-free and chock-full of protein!

What I didn’t like about this product: I can honestly say that there isn’t anything that I didn’t like.

What I liked about this product: This shake was not only delicious (again I only used water), but it was very filling. It was the perfect way to start my day. I could tell that this made a difference in my workout too and I had a lot of energy.  I also love that it is low carb and has a great amount of protein. This shake is reasonably priced and it comes in these handy dandy individual packages that makes it easy for travel. This one gets 5 stars from me!

Whole Foods Plant Based Fit Protein
Cost: $3.99 Per Pack
Flavors: Vanilla Cinnamon and Chocolate Cinnamon
Taste: I almost threw up in my mouth
Calories: 110g / Total Carbs: 4g / Total Protein: 17g / Fiber: 1g

wf-plant-based-protein

What I liked about this product: Ugh. The only thing I liked about this one was the fact that it was all-natural.

What I didn’t like about this product: It was gritty, it tasted AWFUL, and it made my throat itch. So the aftertaste that you get in your mouth after you throw-up? Well, that’s what this tasted like. I couldn’t even stomach it down. I had to toss it out. This not only tasted bad, but it pissed me off. This left me starving since I had to throw it out…I ended up resulting to cookies for lunch!

Shakeology
Cost: An arm and possibly a leg too ($4.33)
Flavors: Strawberry, Chocolate, Café Latte, Greenberry
Taste: Delicious
Calories: 130g / Total Carbs: 15g / Total Protein: 16g / Fiber: 3g

What I liked about this product: So I didn’t have a Shakeology shake this week, but I had tried one a couple of months back when a friend who is a Beach Body coach shared a sample with me. I tried Strawberry and I had mixed it with coconut water. It was delicious! It tasted like I was sipping something fruity from a coconut while sitting on the beach on some tropical island. The product claims to be full of antioxidants and globally sourced superfoods. However, the statements haven’t been confirmed by the FDA. If the statements are true, I’m all for it!

What I didn’t like about this product: Did I mention that it cost an arm and a leg? The pricing is absurd! Also, while I loved the taste of this shake, it didn’t curb my appetite at all. I was still pretty hungry after drinking it. However, my body is different than yours and you may react differently to it.

There you have it, my friends, my week of liquid lunches and my feedback regarding each.  If you’re looking for a meal replacement shake, I highly recommend trying Labrada’s Lean Body for Her. I truly enjoyed the taste of this shake, it gave me the energy I needed to pull through my day, and it’s reasonably priced! Remember, this is my solely my personal opinion so please consult with a doctor before taking any of these supplements.

Thank you all for listening to my vent sesh this week. You just saved me a trip to the doc and the cost of a copay!

Signing off for now….
