Hey there everyone, I’m Amanda and apparently I have been designated as the “fashion guru” by the other Mimosa Moms. Please don’t get your hopes up too high though, as I really am just a regular old full-time working mom of two who happens to enjoy shopping, testing out fad beauty & skincare products, and hoarding back issues of In Style magazine under the false pretense that I will one day look like the farm-bred models on the cover… who have clearly never nursed a teething child, let alone two.
Just as the other ladies have so far, I will take a minute to introduce myself. Natalie gave a fairly accurate account in the first blog post, but I think there is a bit more to me than just the raunchy-mouthed Jersey girl.
For starters, I am a complete and utter Hot Mess. On a daily basis my engine is running on high from the time I wake up between 5-5:30 until I pass out in a heap on my bed sometime around 9:30. I’m not going to lie, it is a little more than frantic teaching full time, chairing and contributing to college and community committees, running occasional workshops and seminars, presenting at conferences, having a spouse that travels A LOT for his job…and let’s not forget Momming. So I feel justified in proclaiming myself the Hot Mess Mimosa Mom. Most people who meet me never know this about me from the outside. Seriously, just on the outside, because I have on more than one occasion, come home at the end of the day to find that my intimate apparel underneath the great outfit is either on backward, inside out, or gone on completely twisted in the mad dash to get out the door and into class on time!!!
But honestly my need to be put together on the outside stems from 1) my need to feel control and stability with at least one thing in this whirlwind life of mine and 2) to compensate for my crazy low self-esteem.
My hope for this blog is that I can connect with other real-life busy moms out there who want to gain control over their inner MILF and find easy, quick, realistic and affordable ways to both look and feel good about themselves. I promise to share with you my favorite places, products, frills, finds, tips, tricks and positive self-talk for being fabulous one damn day at a time!
To kick this off right, I figured I might as well treat you all to a new haircut, color, and sneak peak into my maintenance routine. Pics are included for your viewing pleasure. Every 8 -10 weeks I visit my favorite duo Brad & Joy at our local hair salon, so local in fact that I can bike there if I want, which is a good thing because they serve endless glasses of complimentary wine! Joy is in charge of lying to me and telling me that of course I don’t have a single grey hair on my head yet, as she does her mix master work perfecting my ombre look and angled lob (yup, she always gets a healthy tip from this gal). Brad has magic hands and gives the best shampoo, scalp massage, and protein treatment this side of the Chesapeake Bay. Side Note – he also gives great tips on how to layer alternate brands of mascara for amazing looking lashes).
Every time I go in there I easily get talked into some product that I am convinced will keep me looking not a day over 30 (must be the wine). This time I let them use Olaplex Hair Perfector mixed in with my gloss to keep my hair strong and shiny. It’s been three days and I really do feel a difference. I admit this is probably the most I spend on my personal upkeep, but when you have 30 people staring at you in the front of a room for 3 hours at a time everyday, the least I can do is give them something quality to look at, right?
When I come back next week I will share with you my review of these fancy looking free Oribe body wash samples I happened to score while getting my sassy new do.
